my craftsy class, yay !!!

Hello lovelies, remember when I talked about the amazing opportunity I had a few weeks back when I flew to Denver and recorded a sewing class with Craftsy ? Yeah, the class is now live and it all is super surreal, and exciting, and intimidating all at the same time, eeeeek !!! My class Giftable Projects: Zippered Bags and Purse Organizer is a six lesson class with detailed instructions and lots of tips on how to make three different zipper pouches. Would you like to see the pouches I designed for the class? Here we go.  Easy Coin Pouch with removable wrist strap is the first (and easiest project). I love this sweet little pouch and have made quite a few of them for my daughters and their friends already.  The second pouch I teach is Double Zip pouch which makes a perfect pencil pouch or make up bag. I'm also thinking it would make a great hand sewing supplies pouch. Oh, the possibilities :) Last, but definitely not least, is this Keep it Ne...

orange surprise {a finished quilt}

One of my goals for 2017 is to make a quilt each month to donate to my local homeless shelter. So, when a few days ago it suddenly dawned on me that the month of January was almost over and I did not make a quilt I planned, I started panicking a bit.

Thankfully though I realized I made an HRT quilt top months ago and never finished it, so I quickly dug it out of my wip pile and got to work.

Since this is not a huge quilt, I decided it was time I gave pin basting a try. Can you believe I only pin basted my very first quilt (which turned out pretty bad since I only used about 20 !!! pins for the whole quilt), and all my other quilts were glue basted? I don't even know why I suddenly decided to swap pins for glue, but to my great surprise, I didn't really hate the whole pin basting process. I actually found it kind of relaxing and therapeutic ??? We'll see how long this love affair with pin basting lasts :).

I used this Marimekko orange linen for the backing as I thought it would add a super lovely pop of color and surprise to this otherwise muted quilt top. (I pre-washed the linen to prevent any excessive shrinkage or color bleeding)

I used the edge of my walking foot as a guide to quilt along both sides of each seam and I absolutely love how soft and snugly this quilt turned out.

QUILT STATS

finished size: 47" x 54"
fabrics used: cirrus solids + prints from stash
batting: warm and white
pattern: my own HRT quilt in issue 42 of Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine

Can you believe these two quilts are made using the same pattern? I made them both when I worked on my HRT quilt for Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine, the only difference is the one on the left does not have any border added. I'm always stunned to see how fabric choice and placement makes such a huge difference in the final look of the finished quilt.

Hope you all have a creative and inspiring day. Svetlana

un-paper towels (a quick tutorial)

Hello friends, I hope 2018 is off to a good start for you all! I'm not a fan of new year's resolutions as I tend to break them almost as soon as I think them up :),  but I did decide to focus more on producing less waste this year. My whole family is on board (which makes even small changes a lot more doable) and our first task is to work on reducing the amount of paper and plastic products we use in our kitchen. To start things off, I decided to replace our paper towels with a bunch of fabric un-paper towels . I came across quite a few suggestions on how to make these - some were just plain fabric, others had little snaps or grommets attached. In the end I went with a simple combination of cotton fabric and terry cloth, not adding any hardware as I worried that it might scratch my dishes or counters. I used some pretty fabric that's been sitting in my stash for far too long to make these. I even had some terry cloth on hand so the whole process was super quick and very, ve...
